Copied from Newspaper Obituary (Photo Attached): "Dr. J.J. Pitts Buried Tuesday. Dr. J.J. Pitts for thirty years a citizen of Comanche died at his home in San Angelo at 9:20 o'clock, Sunday, June 3, following an illness of several years duration. His body was brought to Comanche where funeral services were held at four o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son, H.H. Pitts, conducted by Rev. S.D. Lindlsey, interment being made in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Dr. Pitts was born in Habersham County, Georgia, August 6, 1855 and came with his parents to Texas at the age of four, settling in Hopkins County where he grew to manhood. At the age of eighteen he was married to Miss Mollie Alexander at Mineola, Texas to whom four daughters were born, all of who surve him, they being Mesdames Carrie Paggett, and Iva (obituary torn-name unreadable), Misses Frankie and Pr??? Pitts all (information missing); Mr. Pitts studied medicine in Nashville, Tennessee (paper is missing at this point) obtained license to practice his profession which he followed until twenty years ago.
In 1890, Dr. Pitts moved to Comanche and a few months later was married to Miss Mollie Bowen, who survives him. Thirteen children were born to them, eight of whom survive him: O.W. Pitts of Coleman, Mrs. Joe Hopson and L.C. Pitts of Brownwood, H.H. Pitts of Comanche, Mrs. Loda Wallcott, Mrs. W.R. Callcott, Mrs. Mary Goosby and Mrs. A. E. Chatham all of San Angelo.
Dr. and Mrs. Pitts, with the exception of eight years spent in Llano in the nineties, made Comanche their home until 1918, when they moved to Brownwood where they lived six years before moving to San Angelo.
Dr. Pitts was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.
