"Lake Breezes. J. B. Bechtold, a former employee of the Wells-Stone Mercantile company, died yesterday [2 Sep 1896] at Hibbing." [Duluth News Tribune (Duluth, Minn.), September 3, 1896, Page 6, col. 6]

John B. Bechtold, a brother of Mrs. Adam Funck, of this city, died September 2, of heart failure, at Hibbing, Minn., aged 55 years, where he had been engaged as manager for the Hasca mercantile company. Deceased was the eldest son of the late Capt. John Bechtold; was born February 15, 1811, in Jackson township, Lebanon county and in 1859, married Susan Scheetz, and removed to Jersey City, NJ where his family resided. The interment was at Tulpehocken cemetery, September 8, Rev. H. J. Welker conducted the services, selecting as his text, 1 Chron, 20-15. Deceased was a prominent member of the order of Knights o Pythias for over 20 years and was a Past Chanceller. His wife Susan died in March 1890. There survive the following children: John J., Alexander H., and Annie E. wife of F. J. Leonard, all of Jersey City. His mother, Catharine Bechtold, is now in her 83rd year. A brother, Samuel, and a sister Kate, wife of Adam Funck, of this city, and a sister, Emma, wife of Isaac Zerbe, Heilmandale. [Lebanon Daily News, September 12, 1896, Saturday, Page 1]
