His wife had died and his health was failing. He went to stay with his daughter Mary K and husband Jesse Fuller in Abilene Texas. He passed away a few weeks later and was buried June 19 1905. The obit list him as R. L. Watkins. It indicates he was buried the same day he died.

Their was a grave site purchased for him in Abilene on the day he died.
