Ray went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.

Ray was born in Tokio, Texas to Garland and Oleta Huffman on December 1, 1934. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1953. He worked in the oilfields of West Texas until he went into the army in 1957. He served our country until 1960 when he received an honorable discharge. He was recalled into the army in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis and discharged later that same year. He married Linda Carol Watson in February, 1960. He joined the Lubbock Police Department in October, 1960 where he would rise through the ranks, ending his career with them in 1994 as the Assistant Chief of Police. During his tenure with the police department, he held every position within the department other than Police Chief. He had many interesting assigments while on duty - he led the protective detail for the Crown Prince of Iran from 1978 - 1979, he guarded Elvis Presley when he performed in Lubbock and he met several of our United States Presidents. In addition to this, he was selected to go to the FBI Academy and graduated from there in 1974. He obtained his Bachelors degree from Wayland Baptist University later in life.

Throughout his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, reading and spending time with his family. He loved to go to the Texas Coast and watch the ships come in and out of port. He was an avid people watcher and could be found many days on his front porch swing enjoying life as it went by. He was known for his wit and humor by his many friends and acquaintances. Above all, he was truly a family man. He and Linda had two children, Phil Huffman of Amarillo and Michelle Campbell of Ransom Canyon.

In addition to them, those left to cherish his memory are his daughter-in-law, Julie Huffman; son-in-law, Cory Campbell; three grandchildren, Sarah and Josh Huffman and Cutter Campbell; two sisters, Dianna Coleman and husband Michael of Rockport amd Jimmie Perkins and husband Jim of Red Oak; and two brothers, Marshall Huffman and wife Eula of Odessa and Rodney Huffman and wife Connie of Mt. Pleasant. He also left behind many dear nieces and nephews.
