William Patrick Wheeler, 85, of Canton, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday March 16, 1978 in St Mary Hospital in Quincy, Ill. Services were held Saturday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. in St Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev Jerry Kaimann conducting. Burial was in St Patrick cemetery. Mr Wheeler was born August 1, 1892, in Lewis Coutny, Mo, a son of James Patrick and Nancy Logsdon Wheeler. A retired farmer, he was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and the Grange. He married Mary Belle (Mabel) Powell, January 26, 1916, in St Patrick. She died June 11, 1977. Surviving are three sons, William Robert of Marion, Ind, Charles Roy "Shorty" of Ednia and Marion Patrick of Cicero, Ill; three daughers, Mrs Mary Annabel Walker of Hamilton, Ill, Mrs John (Betty) Pearson of Balwin, Mich, and Mrs Hardin (Thelma) Benning of Canton; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an .... sister and a brother.
