Gary was born August 24, 1955, in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Robert W. and Wilma A. (Bullock) Thorne.
He graduated in 1973 from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham, KS. He enjoyed spending time in his garden. Gary also liked cooking, woodworking, and fishing. He loved spending time with his family and his granddaughter.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Wilma Thorne, Effingham, three sons; Ryan (Jill) Thorne, Effingham, Brandon (Rebecca) Thorne, Atchison, KS, Matt Thorne, Cummings, KS, a daughter; Robyn Thorne, Effingham, a brother; Robert Thorne, Effingham, and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009, in the chapel of Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date.
