Jarvis was the son of Jarvis David Martin & Nancy Elizabeth Broy. He married Mary Catherine Nauman on 14 April 1870 & they had 9 children. Jarvis was a farmer residing in Alma VA in 1860. He enlisted on 21 June 1861 in the Dixie Artillery & was reassigned to Cayce's Co. Light Artillery. Along with his brother Daniel, Jarvis was transferred from Chapman's Battery on 4 October 1862 to Purcell's Artillery. He was wounded 5 June 1864 in the left scapula, sent to Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond & returned to duty in July 1864, aged 27. Apparently, he & his brother Daniel both deserted in 1865. Jarvis drowned in a stock tank.
