James Heard Gilmore, Sr. was born 3 Mar 1821 in Georgia. His middle name "Heard" is an indicator of the closeness of the Heard and Gilmore families. On 4 Oct 1841 James married Martha Camilla Cartwright in Talbot County, GA. They were the parents of seven daughters: Louisa A. Gilmore Keller, Margarete Savilla Gilmore, Sarah E. Gilmore (single), Nancy Gilmore Ansley, Martha A. Gilmore (single), Clara Gilmore (single), and Willie Anna Gilmore Blair; and two sons: Thomas Gilmore and James Heard Gilmore, Jr. Mr. Gilmore served with Wimberly's State Troops (GA) a.k.a. Co. K - 9th Georgia Militia - CSA. Mr. Gilmore was a member of Olive Lodge #10 F&AM in Talbotton, GA, where he served many years as Tyler. James Gilmore was buried in Cox Cemetery, near Geneva, Talbot, GA beside his wife Martha and daughter Sarah. Martha and Clara joined them in future years.
