Washington Lafayette Beavers, born in Alabama, was the son of James and Elizabeth (Stevens) Beavers. He was the next to youngest of the six children. James Beavers taught school in Gaston, Alabama before the Civil War.

Washington Lafayette Beavers married Mary Ann Watson on January 10, 1867 in Sumter County. The parents of Mary Ann were David and Caroline Etheridge Watson. Washington Lafayette and Mary Ann Beavers were the parents of eleven children. There were three girls and six boys born into the family and two younger brothers who died as infants. They were Flora, James Lee, Washington Lafayette, Eva, Evangeline, George, and Jesse Fred.

Jesse Fred was married first to Virginia Boyd and they were the parents of Olen Conroe, Tom Watson, Mary Lou and Winnie Fred Beavers. After the death of Virginia, he married Viola McCracken and they were parents of Jesse George, Harold, Joyce and Ross Beavers.
