Butler, 52, and Marticia, 40, are listed with 5 children in 1900: Ora, 18, Ozella, 15, Ethel, 12, Allie M., 10, and Arthlene, 4. The couple had been married 23 years, she had had 9 children, and 6 were living. In 1910 the family is listed as Thomas I. Butler, 62, Margaret, 52, Ethel, 22, Allie, 19, Allen, 11, and Lois, 9.

Mr. Butler had been in good health, but at noon on Wednesday "he came in from a light morning's work, complaining that he felt bad, and in a few moments he was dead." Survivors included his wife, and 7 daughters: Mrs. Dave Sholer of Tenaha, Ozella (Mrs. J. L.) Payton of Saline, LA, Ora (Mrs. J. W.) Payton of Paxton, Mrs. A. N. Joplin of Timpson, Mrs. T. R. Barnhill, and Miss Lois Butler of Center. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church, Center, where Mr. Butler had been a member for 50 years.
