Caleb WollamHaws is the son of Gilberth Haws and Hannah Whitcomb Haws. He is their ninth child and their fifth son. He was born in Green Township, Wayne County, Illinois.

He brother to Caroline (1825 – 1853), Matilda (1826– 1849), Lucinda (1828 – 1917), Elizabeth "Eliza or Beth" (1830 – 1855), Francis Marion (1831 – 1914), Amos Whitcomb (1833 – 1888), William Wallace (1835 – 1895), Albert W. (1837 – 1912), George Washington (1841 – 1921), Emma Smith (1843 – 1917), Mary Olive (1845 – 1920), John Madison (1847 – 1916), and Gilberth Oliver (1849– 1917).

He is the paternal grandson to Jacob Haws & Hannah Neill Haws and maternal grandson to Oliver Whitcomb & Olive Bidlick Whitcomb.

He emigrated to Utah at the age of 10 with his family. They departed Winter Quarters, Nebraska on June 5, 1848 with the Brigham Young Company and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley between September 20 - September 24 in 1848.

He married Eliza Ann Snow, daughter of James C. Snow, on July 24, 1862 in Provo, Utah County, Utah.

He is father to Eliza Ann (1863 – 1939), Mary Ellen (1866 – 1922), Diantha Vilate (1868 – 1868), Sarah Jane (1869 – 1870), and Caleb Willman (1871 – 1941).

Caleb Wollam Haws was a member of the 4th Quorum of the Seventy. He was also a captain in the Navoo Legion at Provo, Utah.

He was set apart for a mission to England on April 22, 1871. He arrived in Liverpool, England on May 22, 1871, and was assigned to the Manchester conference where he labored well and was well loved. Upon the departure of Elder Thomas G. Wooley he was appointed to succeed him in the presidency of the Sheffield conference. Elder Caleb Wollam Haws died of smallpox on Noember 20, 1871 and is buried in the Darton Parish Church of All Saints, in the Diocese of Wakefield, churchyard near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England.

His upright headstone remains intact and reads "Sacred to the memory of Elder Caleb W Haws / Missionary from Salt Lake City / Born October 7th 1838 / Died November 20th 1871 / aged 33 years / He is not dead but sleeping."
