Representatives of the Upper Cumberland in the coming Legislature:
John D. Holladay, reelected Senator without opposition to represent the Tenth Senatorial District compound of Putnam, Overton, Clay, Fentress, Jackson, and Pickett County is the 72nd General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, to convene in January, 1941, was born January 7, 1906 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee, son of Judge O. K. Holladay and Margaret Denny Holladay.
He attended the public schools in Cookeville, and Tennessee Polytechnic Institure, Milligan College, Peabody, Vanderbilt, and Cumberland University. He was admitted to the Bar in 1927 and has engaged in the active practice of law in Putnam and adjoing counties ever since. He has been City Attorney of Cookeville since February, 1931, and served as Chairman of the United Dry Forces of Tennessee in Putnam County during the two elections held for the expression of sentiment of the question of repeal
before being elected to the Senate in 1938, where he fought unsuccessfully to keep Tennessee dry during
the past session.
He is a member of the Methodist Church in Cookeville, and a member of the board of Stewards; a Shriner, Lion, Kappa Sigma, and has been an ardent Democrat from the casting of his first vote.
He married Mary Lucille Cameron daughter of O. E. and Bessie Arnold Cameron, on June 17, 1931. He is interested in sports, having been city golf champion of Cookeville three times, and having served for a number of years as the President of the Isaac Walton League and later the Putnam County Chapter of the Tennessee Federation of Sportsmen. His hobby is breeding pedigreed bird dogs and he spends his leisure time in the fall and winter hunting quail in the counties of his district.
Furthermore, he is following in the foot steps of his distinguished father, Judge O. K. Holladay, who served
two tems from this district back in the Turbulent patterson days of 1909-11.

Funeral services for Judge John Denny Holladay, 63, were held today, Tuesday, August 5, at 4 p.m. at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Alexander, the Rev. James Reed Cox and the Rev. James H. Beasley officiating. Burial was in the Cookeville City Cemetery.
Judge Holladay, son of the late Judge Oscar K. and Margaret Black Denny Holladay, died at the Cookeville General Hospital Monday morning following a heart seizure which he suffered earlier while conducting circuit court.
He was a native of Cookeville as was his mother, daughter of Judge T. L. and Fannie Ford Denny. His father, whom he succeeded as Judge of the Fifth Judicial District, was also a Putnam County native, son of the late Willie A. and Martha Jan Jared Holladay. He had held membership in the Methodist Church for many years and taught The Homemakers Sunday School Class.
He received his education in the Cookeville schools, Milligan College, Milligan, TN, Cumberland University, Lebanon, and the Vanderbilt University School of Law, Nashville.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lucille Cameron Holladay; sister, Mrs. Charles N. Sharpe, Cookeville;
three nieces, Mrs. Robert Childress, Cookeville, Mrs. Allen Woods, Mrs. Charles Bassett Jr., of Hickory Hill, near Donelson; four great nephews and a great niece.
