He was the son of William and Hester Jennings Cunningham, who had 3 sons & 3 daughters. His brothers were named William & Clarence, but his sister's first names are unknown. He quit school after 10th grade to work to help support family. (The majority of students did not finish high school in the early 1900s.) He married Josephine Jackson in 1912 in Parkersburg. They had 3 daughters: Arlie
Irene Cunningham Lind, Donna Marie Cunningham Ailes/Urban,
and Vera Madge Cunningham Thompson/Steffy. He moved his
family to Warren, OH in 1917 to seek a better job (in the
steel industry initially), and stayed there till his death of a(first)heart attack at age 62, sustained while at work. He died at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren 5 days later.
