Robert George Herbert was a British Home Child emigrated to Canada by Middlemore Homes. On May 30, 1903, Robert George Herbert and his brother William John Herbert departed Liverpool aboard the Siberian, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 10, 1903. From there, the boys were taken to the Fairview Distributing/Receiving Home to be placed out to work as indentured servants/farm hands.

Robert George Herbert received cruel and inhumane treatment from his placement family in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. Subsequently, Robert was removed from the home of Mary Banks (Mrs Ingram Banks) in 1905, by Mr. Gerrow, Superintendent of Middlemore Homes.
