Augustus J S Weaver was a son of Uriah and Margaret (Duckworth) Weaver. He first married Evaline McDaniel and had one son. He later married Malissa Hamer and moved to Indiana. Son (with Evaline) John Wesley's death certificate lists Augustus' middle name as John. No middle name for the S has been confirmed at this time.

Augustus was a Civil War Veteran and was wounded several times. In June 1864, Augustus, a corporal in Company F of the 15th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry suffered a minor wound to the leg. Jacob Weaver of Company E suffered a serious arm wound the same month. He traveled back to Fairmont, Barbour County, West Virginia, in September 1905 to attend a reunion of his brothers in arms.
