Mattie Jo Watkins
GILMER - Services for Mattie Jo Watkins, 78, of East Mountain will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 13, at the East Mountain Baptist Church with Brother Ray Tenpenny officiating. Special music will be provided by her great-grandson, Jeff Jackson. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home of Gilmer. Mrs. Watkins died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Good Shepherd Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Watkins was born May 19, 1923, in Upshur Co., to Corbet and Exa Bullard. She was a longtime member of East Mountain Baptist Church. Mrs. Watkins was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will best be remembered for her generosity, kindness and incredible service for the Lord.
Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Johnny Alex Nipper; one son, Milton Johnnie Nipper; and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Ivan F. "Bigboy" Watkins; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Virginia Nipper, Robert and Denise Nipper a Charlie and Glenda Nipper; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gwen and Bob Posey and Pam and Zikie Graham; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Barbara and Murl Owens; one sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and James White; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home.
