Funeral services held for Jeptha Fleming

Funeral services for Jeptha Albert Fleming, age 83, a resident of Donley County for 78 years, were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 1980, in Robertson Chapel Of Memories, with Rev. Paul Hancock, a Christian Minister, officiating. Interment was in Citizens Cemetery with the arrangements under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors.

Mr. Fleming died at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 1980, in Veterans Administration Medical Center in Amarillo. He was born at Childress, Texas on July 15, 1896 and came to Donley County in 1902 from Childress. He worked as a cowboy all his life. In 1915 he began work for the Spur Ranch, owned by W.J. Lewis, Jr. He worked for the RO Ranch in 1917 until 1930 with one year's time out for the Army in 1918. He worked for the JA Ranch in the 1930's and returned to the RO in 1940, where he worked until 1952 when he began work on the Cooke Ranch at Hedley. He retired in 1962 and moved into Clarendon. He was a veteran of W.W.I.

Survivors include a nephew, W.H. CookeIII [sic] of Amarillo; and two great nieces.

Casket bearers were Forrest Sawyer, Glenn Churchman, H.M. Breedlove, Claude Moore, James Burleson, and David Owens.
