Margaret Almarine Alexander Steiner, 101, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2003.

She was born May 25, 1902 in Marshall, Texas to Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Marshall Alexander and Almarine Clinton Alexander. She graduated from Marshall High School and later graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1929. She taught school in Marshall, Waelder and Saturn and substituted at the Kokernot School during WWII. She had also substituted in Harwood. She later taught a business course in Waelder in the Commercial Department. She met Mr. Thomas William Steiner in Miller's Store in Waelder and after a five-year courtship they married September 3, 1930 in the Episcopal Church in Marshall, Texas. They shared 56 happily married years together before "Mr. Will" passed away on October 4, 1986. Together they had shared work in a milking business, turkey-farming, and cattle ranching.

Ms. Steiner had been a member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah since the age of six months and remained an active member with the Episcopal Church of the Messiah until her last years. She had been supportive of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Eggleston House.

She is survived by her beloved friend and care-taker, Joyce Jalufka of Gonzales; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Masonic Cemetery with Father Buzz Yarborough officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were A.O. Hamon, Phillip Hamon, Dr. James Price, Paul Frenzel, Maness Johnston, Kennon Vaughan and Steiner Eberle.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Seydler-Hill Funeral Home of Gonzales was in charge of arrangements.
