DOCTOR BERNEY DIES AT AGE 58
Atchison, Kan.--Dr. Eugene Sullivan Berney, 58, died Saturday night at his home here of a heart attack.
It was believed that the uprooting of a large tree by wind Saturday afternoon at the Berney home contributed to the attack. The tree fell against the house, and ripped a two story porch from the rear of the dwelling.
Doctor Berney was a native of Horton, Kan., and was graduated from the Creighton University school of dentistry at Omaha. He opened an office here in 1926.
Doctor Berney was a former member of the Kansas forestry, game and fish commission, and was a member of St. Benedict's Church here.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Berney of the home; three daughters, Virginia Berney, Mary Berney and Margaret Berney, all of the home; one son, Peter Berney of the home; his mother, Mrs. Peter Berney, Atchison; two sisters, Mrs. Gerald Foley, Atchison, and Miss Isabelle Berney, Forest Park, Ill., and three brothers, Dr. Francis J. Berney, St. Joseph, Maurice Berney, Atchison, and Neil Berney, Silver Spring, Md.
The rosary will be recited at 7:30 tonight at St. Benedict's Church, followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Ernest Stallbaumer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
The body is at the Harouff-Buis mortuary.
