Lindsey Boone Whiteley was the 3rd of 9 children born to Frank and Cassandra (Boone) Whiteley. He was named after his grandfather, Lindsey Boone, the grandson of the famous Daniel Boone. His parents were some of the early pioneers in Oregon territory. He first married Ida "Alice" McLain, and they had three sons, William, Charles, and Edward. Alice died in 1889, at the age of 31 leaving Lindsey with 3 boys who were ages about 8, 7 and 1. In 1890 he married Ella Louise Smith, who also had one son, Earnest.
They joined forces, and then they had 3 more children together Bertha, Earl, and Arthur. Lindsey was a farmer. There was a time when he and his whole family were without a home, and living off the land, in the woods. They lived a pioneers life, and worked hard to survive. Lindsey was a hunter as well. Lindsey taught his children to ski in the Blue Mountains on skis he made himself. As a family they would often take part in Square Dances, and sometimes these would last till early morning and they would make it home in time to milk the cows.
In his later years, he had a lung sickness, and was ill for a long time. During that time he went to live with his son Earl in Walla Walla. He died while living there.

*Much thanks to Gordon S. (#46812090) who previously managed this memorial and contributed much to it.

NOTE: Lindsey's birth year is incorrect on his headstone. He was about 1 year old in the 1860 census.
