Minerva Cynthia Anna Tucker Welch was born May 16, 1871 in Alabama. She married William “Bill” E Welch (1851 - 1918) in about 1890 (probably in Parker, Texas). At the time, he was about 39 and she was about 19. They had eight known children. In the 1900 census, Bill and Minerva are living in Parker, Texas with their two children Ramie and Aubrey, and a niece and nephew, Bessie (14) and William (12) Williams. Minerva says in the record that she has had four children, and that two have died. Their names are unknown. Bill is working as a farmer on his own land. In 1910, the family is in Coralea, Harmon, Oklahoma, where Bill again owns a farm to support his now five kids and two nephews. Bill died in 1918 in Coralea. His wife appears as a widow in the 1920 census with her children. Her occupation is “Farm operator” and her oldest four children at home: Aubrey (20), Emma (18), Willard (13), and Ella (11), are listed as “Farm labourers”. The youngest, Carrie (9), has no listed occupation. Obviously times had grown hard for the family. To make matters worse, on April 8, 1920, about three months after the census was recorder, Minerva died, leaving all of her children to take care of each other and the farm without her. Both of the Welches are buried in Dryden Cemetery.
