JULIUS E. BLISS-was four months a soldier before he attained his majority. He enlisted at Ashtabula, Ohio, February 28, 1865, and went out as a recruit to the 2d Ohio Volunteer Calvalry. He joined the regiment at Harpers Ferry, and was mustered into Company L. He went from Harpers Ferry to Cumberland, Maryland, and there took the measles, and was sent back to the hospital at Harpers Ferry. After three weeks there he was sent to Clarysville, Maryland, hospital. When he moved again it was to Wheeling, West Virginia, and there he was discharged, June 16, 1865. The measles settled in his eyes, and he became totally blind. He has now partially recovered his sight. His birth was in Springfield, Massachusetts, Elijah, and Rebecca (Lyons) Bliss his parents. His mother is no longer living. His brother Charles H., now living in Ashtabula, was in the service. June 7, 1882, in Huron county, Julius E. Bliss and Bella Hauxhurst were united in marriage. The bride was the daughter of Philip and Julia A. (Denman) Hauxhurst; her mother now deceased. Mr. Bliss is one of the leading business men of North Fairfield, engaged in manufacturing. He is a member of Tod Lee Post, No. 503, G.A.R. From the book "MILITARY RECORD OF HURON COUNTY"
