`Mrs. Mattie Baker Stuart, a retired teacher and a longtime resident of Bradley County, died at the Bradley County Memorial Hospital Tuesday. Mrs. Stuart was 72 years of age, a Baptist, and a native of Bradley County. She is survived by her husband, J. F. Stuart; three daughters, Mrs. Dot Caplinger of Hermitage, Mrs. Joe Wilson of Warren and Mrs. Emma Stansbury of Muskogee, Oklahoma; two sons, Vance of Warren and H. D. Stuart of Muskogee, Oklahoma; a brother Luke Baker of Dallas, and a sister, Mrs. L. C. Ederington of Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services for Mrs. Stuart were conducted at the Hermitage Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. Rolla Nixon and Rev. Gerald W. Trussell. Burial was in the Hickory Springs Cemetery by Frazer Funeral Home. In charge of the flowers were Miss Allie Drew Jarrett, Mrs. Jim Williams, Mrs. Beadie Mullins, Mrs. Artie Clanton, Mrs. Coy Smith, Mrs. Sherman Smith, Mrs. Dewey Self, Mrs. Lavon Boyette, Mrs. Curtis St. John, Mrs. Lloyd McCouglad and Mrs. Matthew Pennington. Active pallbearers were Lavon Boyette, Laurence Peebles, Rufus Green, Curtis St. John, Matthew Pennington, Russell Colson, James Leslie and John Carr. Honorary pallbearers were Coy Smith, Lloyd McDougald, Sherman Smith, J. L. Hollingsworth, Sam Hollingsworth, _____Pennington, Jess Shipley, Dave Sharp, Bruce P. Mety, Dr. Merl Crow, Tommy Barries, Roy Green, Earnest Nix, J. S. Creek and M. C. Singer. [1956]
