Anderson was a Flag Bearer with Co. I, 11th Al Inf. He was also with Co. B, 41 st AL Infantry Regt. Two days prior to the surrender at Appomattox, A.D. was shot and captured at Farmville,VA. on 5 Apr., 1865. On Apr. 9 he was in the Field (Flying) Hospital, 24 Army Corps, Army of the James (US Army). He was sent to the General Hospital, Farmville, VA on 14 Apr. where he died on May 3. A gunshot wound to his leg required amputation. He died from complications of the amputation and was buried in a mass grave with 600 other Confederate men.
