Was a Marine in WWII. Served as a scout in A Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines (1/2). Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the battalion was reactivated and deployed to the Pacific theater in June 1942. While there, the unit participated in the bloody "island hopping" campaign, fighting at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian. According to his record he returned home just before the battle of Okinawa.

Was only married to Elizabeth "Betty" Patrick for 6 months during the war when he was stationed in California.

Audry F. Reichter, age 87, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. Born January 30, 1922, in Richmond to Earl T. and Myrtle Vance Reichter, he was a lifelong resident of this area. Audry was a W.W. II Marine veteran. He was a take-off operator at Johns Manville for 38 years. Audry was a member of First Baptist Church of New Paris, Ohio, Foster Home Association, Home League, Home builders Sunday School Class, life member of the VFW and the Marine Corps League. He and his wife provided a foster home to over 2,000 children since 1947.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L Reichter, to whom he was married June 22, 1946; daughters, Diana Reichter of Richmond, Yvonne (Tom) Lucas of Greens Fork, Laura (Ron) Brenner of Yorktown, Ind., Carol (John) Curts of Richmond, Tammy (Tom) Moorefield of Richmond, Angela (Joe) Longfellow of Fountain City, Teresa Franklin of Richmond and Debbie Timmons of Hagerstown; sons, Rick Reichter of Richmond, Jim (Debbie) Osborne of Cape Coral, Fla., Chris Mitchell of Richmond and Gary Reichter of Banta, Ore.; 21 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Andy Reichter of Richmond; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Earl and Joe Reichter and Richard Davis; and one sister, Mary Baker.

Visitation for Audry F. Reichter will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 2 at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Hodgkin officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military rites by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
