Herschel Graydon (Smokey) Pittman was born on December 18, 1904 to John Griffin Pittman and Mary Belle Thompson-Pittman in Batesville, Arkansas. On October 11, 1929 he married Faye Ola Matthews. To this marriage was born a son, Donald Lyle Pittman-Strickland on March 1, 1933. Donald took the name of his step-father-Strickland. H.G Pittman married Bernice Helen Armstrong in 1939 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. To this marriage was born one daughter, Pamela Lee Pittman on November 3, 1952. Smokey and Bernice was in the entertainment business, entertaining in west coast establishments and Colorado establishments during their career. They entertained for the USO during WWII. In the 1960's the Pittman's retired from entertaining and settled in Arkansas, living in Elkins, Ark., Huntsville, Ark, Berryville, Ark, and Fayetteville, Ark. Shortly before his death, he and Bernice separated and Smokey moved in with his sister, Pal Moomey in Ft. Smith, Ark. At the time of his death he left behind his former wife of Colorado, his daughter of Lyons, Colorado, sisters Opal (Pal) Moomey of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Grace Fletcher of Oklahoma City, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral was held in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery in Ft. Smith.
