Funeral services for George Washington Killingsworth of Hedley, for nearly thirty years a resident of the Quail area, were conducted Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church in Quail.
Mr. Killingsworth, who has been in ill health for the last three years, died at his home in Hedley on Sunday, November 13. He had been seriously ill for about three weeks.
Mr. Killingsworth was born in Arkansas on February 5, 1860, the son of E. R. and Sarah Killingsworth, and at the time of his death was seventy-eight years, five months and eight days of age. He was married to Miss Sallie McGill at Batesville, Arkansas in 1887.
In 1890, Mr. and Mrs. Killingsworth came to Texas, settling in Denton County. In 1902 they came to Collingsworth County and settled north of Quail. during the time they were here, Mr. Killingsworth made many friends, and gained the respect of all who knew him. In 1931 he moved to Hedley, where he and Mrs. Killingsworth had resided since. Mr. Killingsworth had been a member of the Methodist church since 1895.
Surviving are his widow and these children: Clarence Killingsworth of Wellington; Claude Killingsworth and Everett Killingsworth of Lubbock; Mrs. Irene Martin and Mrs. Maude Martin of Canon City, Colorado; Miss Callie Killingsworth, Mrs. Oleta Carmack and Mrs. Ruth Amerson of Quail; Mrs. Retha Brooks of Mullinsville, Kansas; Mrs. Myrtle Payne of Chickasha, Oklahoma and Mrs. Fay Roberson of Hedley; 42 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four brothers and one sister: Tom Killingsworth of Little Elm, Texas, Ralph Killingsworth of Denton, John Killingsworth of San Diego, California, Ross Killingsworth of Houston and Mrs. Mary Webb of Dimmitt.
