Mattie was the youngest daughter of Felix and Martha (Foster) Walker.

Mattie married James "Jimmy" Murphy. Their children were
Mary Hazel,
Lawrence Felix and
James Elmer.

Mattie was diagnosed with a brain tumor which caused her to go blind in the final months of her life.

After Mattie died, her husband put the children up for adoption. Walker family members wanted to take them, but Jimmy had been beaten up so many times by Mattie's brothers whenever he beat up Mattie in a drunken rage, that he refused to let his children be taken in by a Walker. Walkers tried to locate the children, but were forbidden information by adoption privacy laws.

Now, over 100 years after Mattie's death, records through ancestry.com and Find A Grave have revealed the fate of the Murphy children. What the Walkers never knew was that the children had all been placed with their father's sister and her husband, Mary (Murphy) Lacy and Elmer Lacy in Iowa. They all took the last name Lacy.
