Funeral for George Henry James Sr., 65, was held at 3:30 Tuesday at College Hills Church with Pastor Robert Ritchie of Tennyson Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Christoval Cemetery by Johnson's Funeral Home.
James, longtime Coke County farmer and father of San Angelo Police Chief Melvin James and Patrolman Clarence B. (Buck) James, died about 11 am Monday in Shannon Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. James was born Nov. 30, 1898 in Priddy in Mills County. He moved to Runnels County in fall of 1914 and was baptised in the Baptist Church in 1918. He married Katie B. Derrick July 25, 1920, at Mule Creek Community in Coke County under an oldtime Baptist brush arbor.
Survivors include three sons Melvin and Clarence James both of San Angelo, and George H. James Jr. of San Saba; three daughters, Mrs. Katie B. Chambers of 802 E. Parkway, Mrs. Dorothy Ellen McClure of Tennyson, and Mrs. Hazle Deans of Big Spring; three sisters Mrs. M. Hibbs and Mrs. Ben McMurry both of San Angelo, and Mrs. K. G. Brown of Rising Star; two brothers the Rev. H. F. James of Andrews, and Earl James of San Angelo; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
