GALESBURG -- Shirley W. Sandburg, 85, of 311 E. Simmons St. died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Born July 6, 1913, in Galesburg to Hugh and Doris Frank Woolam, she married Martin G. Sandburg on Oct. 12, 1935, in Galesburg. He died Feb. 21, 1986. Surviving is one son, Jeffrey of Barrington Hills; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Lory) Hocker of Alexis; her caregiver, Dr. Milo Reed of Galesburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg, where she served as a trustee. She was an honorary member of the Knox-Lombard 50 year Club and was a member of Galesburg Cottage Hospital Auxiliary.
Private family graveside services will be Saturday at Linwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Shirley was the daughter of Hugh E. Woolam and Georgia Doris Funk. Shirley married Martin G. Sandburg on 12 October 1935 at Galesburg, Illinois, and they had two children.
