Georgina Evelyn Landwehr was born in rural Montgomery County, TX, the sixth child of William Walter Landwehr and Georgia Eva Crain. When Georgina was about 2 years old the family moved to Houston, TX. Their home was in the Houston Heights on the corner of Thirteenth and Arlington streets. Georgina attended Harvard Elementary School, Hogg Junior High School then on to Heights High School. Georgina was in the first class to go to the new John H. Reagan Senior High School, making the walk from Heights High School (now Hamilton Junior High School) to the new Reagan Senior High School. Georgina attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir. Georgina was also a member of the the youth group (Y.P.S.L.) One of the adult leaders of the youth group was Mrs. Cecil Hovey. One Christmas Eve Mrs. Hovey introduced Georgina to her younger brother from Pensacola, FL, Eugene (Gene) Smith, who was visiting for the holidays. They saw each other many times over the holidays and Gene started coming to Houston every summer to see Georgina finally moving to Houston in 1931. On August 27, 1933 Gene and Georgina were married in the Christ Episcopal Church in Galveston, TX . A year later they bought a home in the Houston Heights at 1028 Tulane where they lived until 1978 when they moved to Sugar Land, TX. Georgina enjoyed scuba diving, square dancing, traveling, rock polishing, jewelry making and many other hobbies.
