Starr Hopkins Altenderfer, 98, a resident of Trenton, MO, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Eastview Nursing Home in Trenton where she had resided since May 5, 2005.
Mrs. Altenderfer was born on December 20, 1911 in Harrison County near Eagleville, MO, the daughter of Lemual R. and Sarah Elizabeth (Cook) Hopkins.
At age 17 she was married to Carl McGinnis. They moved to Omaha, NE where they lived for 10 years. She married Galowe Altenderfer on July 30, 1950 in Trenton, MO, and they farmed on a farm east of Farmersville, MO. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1962.
She was raised and attended school at Eagleville, MO. She worked at Darlings Shops and after she was promoted to manager she moved to Peoria, IL, St. Joseph, MO, and Madison, WI, to manage stores there. She moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1945. She started working for Dean Bogue at the Gables in 1958 and stayed there until she retired in 1980.
She belonged to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sister-in-laws; Ione Altenderfer, Trenton, MO, and Lolila Cramer, Ludlow, MO, a brother-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Altenderfer was preceded in death by her parents; Lemual R. and Sarah Elizabeth (Cook) Hopkins, her husband; Galowe Altenderfer, four brothers and five sisters.
There was a cremation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Trenton, Mo. Private inurnment of the cremains will held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, Trenton, MO.
