Willie Olivia was the youngest of five children born to W.W. and Mary Olive Gafford. Her mother died in 1880, when Willie was just two years old.

Willie's father, W.W. Gafford placed his five children with his parents, according to the 1880 Census, upon his wife's death. He lived with a cousin, in another part of Texas until 1881.

Willie's father remarried to my g.g.grandmother, Hulda Louise Morgan (Brazzil) in March of 1881. Hulda had one child, my great grandmother Esta Ellen, born in 1871, who she brought into the marriage. From 1881, until Hulda died about 1889, Willie and her four siblings returned to living with their father and new step-mother. Hulda and W.W. had six children, the first, Byars, born nine months after their marriage. The others were born every couple of years. Three of the children born to W.W. and Hulda survived to adulthood -- Byars, Carrell and Lula "Nora" Gafford.

Esta married and left for Colorado with her new husband, my g.grandfather, J. B. Edwards, in 1888. He was a cowboy working the Chisholm Trail. Their oldest child, May was born in Colorado.

The year following Hulda's death, W.W. remarried to his third wife, Martha, who brought her two surviving children into the marriage. The couple moved from Upshur County, TX to Brown County, TX where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Willie married William 'Ferd' McNeece Jr. on September 2, 1897 in Coleman County, TX. Willie's father died in 1903 in Brown County, TX. Willie and Ferd raised their children in Texas and Oklahoma, with brief trips to NM where Ferd thought he'd like to consider living. Some of Willie's offspring, as well as her siblings' offspring, have provided data for her life. A photo of her as a young woman, with her father, W.W. Gafford is available.
