Santa Anna News, 28th April 1988. "GARLAND C. SMITH. Garland C. Smith, age 65, of Bangs passed away Saturday April 23, 1988 at 3:34 a.m. at a nursing home in Early.
Services were held Monday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home in Coleman with Rev. Donald Provines of Central Baptist Church in Coleman officiating. Burial was in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home.
Born August 8, 1922 in Brown County to Levi and Allie Lee Davis Smith, he was raised in Coleman and Brown counties and lived in Bangs the past four years. He attended Concord and Santa Anna schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a roofer.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carol Franklin of Midland and Mrs. Mary Sue Alford of Odessa; a son, Lawrence Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; his parents, Levi and Allie Smith of Coleman; two brothers, Clarence Smith of Coleman and Travis Smith of San Angelo; three sisters, Mrs. Charlie [Inez] Wells, Mrs. Dude [Lucille] Seratte and Mrs. Bill [Doris] Bamber all of Coleman; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill Bamber, ____ C. Guthrie, James Smith, Marion Smith, Wayne Smith and Charlie Wells."
