Charley was the son of Samuel Albert Hazen and Emily Lanning, daughter of James Lanning and Arvilla Mathews.
Born in Carroll or Franklin County, Indiana, as a young boy Charley went with his parents to Nebraska and lived for several years in Pender. From there they went to Cedar Vale, Kansas for a time.
In September 1893 in a covered wagon the Hazens came to Oklahoma for the run of the Cherokee strip. They first lived in Ponca City then settled for good in Fairfax where Charley and his father were a carpenters.
Charley married Corinne Ann "Creame" Law 18 OCT 1905 Anadarko, Caddo, Oklahoma. Her parents were Montville and Ida May Young Law.
