Hazel Jones Royal, age 97, of Richmond, formerly of Lynchburg, VA died February 15, 2010.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Harry W. Royal (Marilyn) and Dr. Frank S. Royal, Sr. (Pamela); six grandchildren, Dr. Pamela Jenkins (Clarence), Dr. Karen Love (Rodrick), Dr. Frank S. Royal, Jr., Steven Royal, Natasha Royal and Donald Hinson; ten great-grandchildren; niece, Mila Chavis (Bernard); nephew, Reginald Brown; great nephew, Bernard Chavis III; cousins, Barbara Jean Richardson and Donna Banks Mey. She leaves cherished friends including Lena Williams and Kathleen Olivia Cotman and many extended family members.

Mrs. Royal taught in the Campbell County Public School System and retired from the Lynchburg Public School System.

She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Inc.

A Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Omega Service will be held on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 6pm at Garland Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Garland Avenue, followed by the family receiving friends until 8pm. After 11:30am Saturday, February 20, 2010, her remains rested in Jackson Street United Methodist Church, 901 Jackson Street, Lynchburg, VA where The Links, Inc. Memorial Service was held at 1pm, immediately followed by the funeral service at 1:30pm. Rev. Quentin Lawson officiated. Rev. Carl B. Hutcherson, Jr. eulogist. Interment Forest Hill Burial Park, Lynchburg, VA.
