William's Father moved their family and possessions to Texas loaded on a wagon in October of 1856. They brought horses from Tennessee to breed and sell in Texas. After the Civil War, William purchased a cabin in the Spring Creek area, built by the Patillo Family in 1855; along w/ 90 acres.
William married Malissa Ellen Dickson (some records have Dixon) on 28 August 1856 in Maury County, Tennessee, and they had EIGHT children of record:
1. Etta Pickard (1857 - ),
2. Pattie Pickard (1860 - 1861),
3. Jessie Tom Pickard (1863 - 1947),
4. Margaret "Maggie" E Pickard-Poston (1866 - 1932),
5. Frances "Fannie" Pickard-McMakin (1868 - 1928),
6. John A Pickard (1871 - 1944),
7. Jasper Sidney Pickard (1874 - 1958), and
8. Mack Dixon Pickard (1879 - 1906).
William served as County Commissioner, and was President of the Parker County Pioneer Association.
William passed away on 15 January 1898 in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas, and he was laid to rest there at Spring Creek Cemetery.
