Susannah Stewart and James B. Gilliland married in Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1823, moved to Tuscarawas County in 1833, and to Wyandot county in 1845, purchasing 200 acres of land in Eden Township. There were ten children: Lucinda, Jacob, Edward, David, Susan, William, James L., John M., Margaret A. and George W. The latter died in infancy; David was killed in the battle of Bull Run in 1862; Susan died in 1875. James B. Gilliland died November 13, 1877, and was interred on the home farm in Eden Township.∼Civil War veteran in Co. I, 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Year of birth 'reported' upon enlistment was 1816 as age 45 was cut off. Others have been noted as born as early as 1792.
