Jack was the oldest son of Eugene Allison "Jack" and Frances Marie "Marie" (Palmer) Byrd. He had one sibling, his brother, Robert Lee Byrd.

Jack quit high school his senior year to enlist in the US Navy where he served honorably as a tail-gunner in the Pacific during World War II. He would later go back to his high school, finish, and receive his High School Diploma.

He married Arline Lucille "Vicky" Sullivan on January 23, 1953 and to this union were born two children, a son and a daughter. In retirement, Jack and Vicky were well-known crafters among the followers of Texas craft shows. They had a following of both crafting friends and customers for their unique and beautiful crafts. Jack was a talented wood-worker and an exceptional businessman.

It was while woodworking in his garage that Jack suffered a fatal heart attack, leaving behind his loving wife of 45 years, his children, their spouses and grandchildren.

Truly soul-mates, Jack and Vicky were never in disagreement; it was always, "Honey, let me do that for you." Or, "Dear, is there anything I can do for you?"

Even as they aged, Jack and Vicky were so beautiful they looked like movie stars. But more importantly, they were kind, gentle and hardworking people that were loved by all who knew them and they are greatly missed.
