Betty June (Glover) Calkins
June 13, 1928 - July 1, 2009

Betty June Calkins passed away July 1, 2009 at her apartment at the Fountains, in Grand Junction, Colorado, after a courageous battle with Arthritis and Dementia. She was 81. Betty was born June 13, 1928 in Limon, Colorado to her parents, Claude and Ora Hendrix. She was the third of six children. She graduated from Limon High School in 1946 and worked for the local telephone company as an operator. Betty also worked in the Limon grocery store and retired from the People's Natural Gas Company as the secretary and bookkeeper in 1988. Betty had three sons from her first marriage to Dale Glover; Steve, Bud and Bill. Betty later married Don Calkins in 1965 who had two children from a previous marriage; Tim and Jane. Betty's oldest son, Steve Glover, lives in Cypress, Texas with his wife, Kris and they have four children, Garrett, Kara, Reid and Grant. Bud Glover and his wife, Kathy live in Grand Junction, CO, and they have two daughters, Andrea and Breanne, and a granddaughter, Caitlyn. Bill Glover, Betty's youngest son, lives in Woodland Park, CO with Susan and his dogs. Betty enjoyed life in the small rural community of Limon where she was born and raised. Her hobbies included bowling, golf, playing cards, traveling, gambling on the slot machines with her close friend Enid, doing crossword puzzles, gardening and reading. Betty and her husband, Don never missed a chance to attend sporting events in which the children and grandchildren participated. She was also an ardent fan of both the Broncos and the Rockies. Grand Junction has been Betty's home since 2004. Her outgoing personality and nickname "Betty Boop" made her a well known resident of the Fountains. A huge thank you goes to the staff at the Fountains, the health care providers, Hospice, her friends, and her family who have supported her over the years. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don; parents, Claude and Ora Hendrix; and brothers, Alvin, Calvin and Harold Hendrix. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Kris), Bud (Kathy) and Bill Glover; sister, Dorothy (Ralph) Magnus; brother, Don (Shirley) Hendrix; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at the Fountains on July 3rd , 2009 at 2:00 p.m. and there will be a second service held in Limon at the United Methodist Church on July 6th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at the Pershing Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B N. 12th, Grand Junction, Colorado. 81506.
