Frank Pierce, a prominent farmer and operator of a large stone quarry at Rheems, died at his residence on Main street, Friday morning at 8:15 after a brief illness. Wednesday evening his condition made it necessary to summon Dr. Wm Tome, the family physician, who found the case an alarming one on account of a weak heart. He is survived by his wife (Miss Haldeman before marriage), one son, Frank, at home, and the following sisters: Mrs. Emma Gruber, Mrs. Benjamin Eshleman, Mrs. John Stern, Mrs. Harriet Hoffman, and Mrs. Kate Morton, of that community, and a brother Joseph, of Illinois... The deceased was ordained in 1903 as deacon at the Mennonite Church at Risser's which office he filled until the time of his death, making friends wherever he went. He was an important man in his community and well known throughout Lancaster county. (The Semi-Weekly New Era - July 10, 1918)
