Fannie was born July 23, 1919 in Quincy, Massachusetts, and had lived in Massachusetts, Florida, and California. She will be dearly missed by her family, relatives, and many, many close friends. After raising three children, Fannie returned to school later in life, earning her bachelor's and MLS degrees at UCLA.
She then started a remarkable second career, rising to tenured Associate Law Librarian at USC, where for many years she assisted uncountable graduate students, faculty, and other researchers in finding difficult and obscure materials; she retired at age seventy in 1989.
She loved music and attending the Philharmonic, and was an avid traveler, reader, and follower of the American political scene.
She was predeceased by her brothers Irving, Albert, and Sidney Szathmary, and by her ex-husband Samuel Fishlyn. She is survived by her brothers Arthur Szathmary and sister-in-law Lily, and Bill Dana and sister-in-law Evy, by her son Elliott Fishlyn and daughter-in-law Laura Green; by her daughter Debby Carlton and son-in-law Jim, and by her daughter Suzan Jaffe, son-in-law Gary, and grandson Alex.
A service will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Sinai Memorial Park and Mortuaries, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood.
