TICHENOR, THOMAS C., 97 of Okolona passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Norton Hospital.

Mr. Tichenor was born November 29, 1912 to Thomas Alexander and David Ellen Tichenor (née Cherry) in Bowling Green, KY. After a childhood in Calhoun, he attended Western Kentucky Teachers College graduating in 1935 with an A.B. in English. He later completed graduate work at the University of Kentucky and Western. Mr. Tichenor was an educator teaching in Kenton County before World War II and in Jefferson County Public Schools at Southern, Thomas Jefferson, and Marion C. Moore. He saw active service in the United States Navy during World War II and remained in the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant commander. He also worked for the Veteran's Administration and for the United States Army in career guidance.

He married the late Louise Blackwell Tichenor. In addition to his wife, Louise, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Elmer Lee Gipson; and his stepdaughter, Dorothy Louise Vincent.

Mr. Tichenor is survived by his daughter Leona Tichenor of Chicago Heights, IL; his son, Tom Tichenor, of Columbus, OH; and his grandson, Mathew Dickens, of Morehead, KY.

Family and friends will remember him for his vivid stories of the Green River country and the abundant yield of his garden.

Mr. Tichenor's funeral service will be at 10 a.m. EST. Friday at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Okolona. Burial is in Calhoun Cemetery, Calhoun, KY. Louisville visitation will be 3-8 p.m. EST Thursday at the funeral home. Calhoun visitation will be 1:30 p.m.- 3:15 p.m. CST. Friday at Muster Funeral Home, 300 Main Street Calhoun, KY. Burial to follow at 3:30 p.m. CST.

Memorial gifts may be made to Cooper Memorial United Methodist Church or the Memorial Landscaping Fund at McLean County High School.
