Indianapolis News - Thursday, May 13, 1909:
The funeral of Campbell H. Cobb, who killed himself at the Denison Hotel, was held this afternoon at the family home on Broadway. At the request of the widow, only simple and private services were held at the residence. At Crown Hill Cemetery, the Ancient Landmarks Lodge of Masons, of which Mr. Cobb as a member, took charge of the body, and the burial was conducted with Masonic rites, R. G. McClure, master of the lodge, officiating. Pallbearers were William H. Clapp, Herman C. Tuttle, John E. Milnor, Herman B. Sayles, F. B. Davenport, and Dr. J. A. Martin, all of them close friends of Mr. Cobb during his lifetime.
There is a generally accepted theory among the close friends and business acquaintances of Mr. Cobb that his acute sensitive nature led him to kill himself. A business associate of Cobb said he talked with Cobb frequently and knew he was brooding over the mining deal in which he and other Indianapolis men invested money on the recommendation of Cobb. The monetary loss was insignificant, he said, but Cobb was heartbroken because he was instrumental in getting other persons to invest in a losing venture. It is understood that Cobb left his family well provided for. His estate includes several insurance policies.
