Funeral services for John Henry Watson, 51, former Hall Countian, were held at the Lakeview First Methodist Church today at 3 p.m.
Watson was killed in Fresno, Calif., on May 4 when the pickup truck in which he was riding was struck by a railroad switch engine. Watson resided at Santa Maria, Calif., at the time of his death.
Rev. O.C. Evans, pastor, and Rev. I.T. Hoggatt conducted the last rites. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of Murphy-Spicer Funeral Directors.
Pall bearers were: A.A. Srygley, Morris Robertson, Del E. Wells, Rail Barnett, Jett Hoggard and Ross Springer.
Born on March 6, 1899, in Collin County, Watson moved to this county in 1901 with his parents and was married to Mrs. Laura Hitchcock on Feb. 8, 1942.
He had made his home in California for a number of years where he was a combine contractor. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laura Watson, of Santa Maria; a daughter, Mrs. Doris Jacobs of Dewitt, Ark., and a son, Arthur Watson of Compton, California.
Two step-sons, Marvin Hitchcock of Santa Maria, and Paul Hitchcock of Omack, Wash., survive.
He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. J.W. Watson, of Lakeview.
Six sisters survive: Mrs. Tom Jones, Troy Payne, Jeff Melton and Miss Gladys Watson, all of Lakeview; Mrs. Rilda Smallwood of Amarillo and Mrs. Clay Fortenberry of Honey Grove.
Six brothers also survive: Hugh W. Watson, Carl Watson, A.J. Watson, Leon Watson, Jess Watson and Joe Watson, all of Amarillo.
Other survivors include five grandchildren.
