Mrs. Mary Paul was born in Tyser County, Miss., June 4th, 1885 and died in Caruthersville, Mo., Monday morning, August 24th, at 4 o'clock. She was 70 years, 2 months and 20 days old, she is survived by her son and three daughters, David Paul, Mrs. Ella King, Mrs. Doshia Lawrence and Mrs. Etta Wade, all of this city.
Mrs. Paul was converted several years ago and united with the Nazarene church five years ago. She was a real consecrated Christian and will truly be missed by the members of the church with whom she has labored for so many years.
"Mother" Paul, as she was known, was a devoted mother, she loved her home and her children. She was kind and courteous to all she met and was loved by all who knew her.
In her going the church has lost one of its most faithful members, the home a kind and affectionate mother, the community a devout Christian character. Funeral services were held at the church by Rev. Wolverton, her pastor not being able to be present. The church building was filled to over-flowing by her many friends.
The pall bearers were Mr. Liggett, Mr. Quinn, Mr. Wages, Mr. Boyd, Mr. Kelley and mr. Pinner.
The songs of her request "Nearer My God to Thee," "Just Inside the Eastern Gate" and "When I get to the End of the Way" were sung by the choir.
"Tell Mother I'll Be There" was sung by Misses Eunice and Azalea McAnally. Scripture lesson was the 14th chapter of St. John.
She bore her afflictions with great patience, never murmured or complained. Always had a not of praise for God's goodness and said she had been drawn closer to God during the days of her intense suffering.
The remains were interred in the local cemetery August 25th and the new made mound was covered with beautiful flowers. She leaves a husband, 4 children, 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her going.
"Sleep on dear one and take thy rest,
Our hears are grieved, but God knows best."
