Son of Samuel and Alethina (Howe) Brigham.

On 12 Jul 1861 John, a road repairman, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Clinton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
He was 26 years, 11 months and 7 days old.

John and Samuel D. Brigham, brothers, served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry in Co. C.

On 21 Oct 1861, at The Battle of Ball's Bluff, Leesburg, Virginia, John was reported missing.

On 20 Nov 1861 at "The Worcester Daily Spy", Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, John D. Brigham was listed with 195 other men among the prisoners taken at Ball's Bluff.

On 1 Jun 1862, John was promoted to 1st Sergeant.

On 10 Dec 1862 John ended military service with the 15th Massachusetts due to disability.

On 27 Oct 1863 John, 29, married Betsey J. Cutting, 29, daughter of Willis and Sally (Rogers) Cutting, at Clinton, MA, in a first marriage for both. They had one daugher, Mabel who remained unmarried.

In Jun 1886 John took part in the regimental reunion and Excursion to the Battle-Fields of Gettysburg, PA., Antietam, MD., Ball's Bluff, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Occupation - Supertintendant of roads.
