Amy Gaines was born in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee in 1829. She was the daughter of Francis Gaines and Charlotte Satterfield. She married Asa Valentine Ladd in Wayne County, Missouri in 1849. After his death in the Civil War, she and her children migrated to Fulton County, Arkansas. She was living with her son, Henry, in Benton Township, Fulton County in 1880. She died in Salem, Fulton County, Arkansas and is buried in the Staten Cemetary near Sturkie, Arkansas. The exact location of her grave has not been determined due to destruction of the cemetary.
