Richard D. SELL, 70, died Thursday, December 19, 2002.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Dennis officiating. Burial will be in Heart Cemetery in Booker by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
Mr. SELL was a member of First Baptist Church of Perryton. He was a farmer and rancher. He took great pride in his maternally superior registered Herefords and Red Angus.
In 1998 he was awarded the 823 Honor Medal by the Republic of Taiwan for his service defending the Republic of China from Invasion by Communist China during November 1956. He attended four years of college at McMurray College and Oklahoma A&M, but before graduating, was accepted into the naval aviation flight school in Pensacola, Florida.
He served four years as a Navy and Marine fighter pilot, much of which was spent stationed in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He married Rita WATKINS on July 06, 1956. In 1958 he was honorably discharged and moved back to Booker to farm and ranch with his father, Dan SELL. He enjoyed farming, but raising cattle was his first love.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, David SELL of Booker, Kerry SELL of Birch Bay, Washington, Tom SELL of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Matt SELL of Austin; his father, Dan SELL of Booker; two sisters, Edna Mae NORTON of Niotaze, Kansas, and JoAnn BECHTHOLD of Booker; and fourteen grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1272, Perryton, TX 79070; or a favorite charity.
