John Baymiller was born December 13, 1845, the son of George & Christianna Baymiller. He was the husband of Anna Rebecca Kepner Baymiller, who died in 1900, and Mary L. Baymiller. In 1860, he was a carpenter living in West Manchester Township, York County. He stood 5' 10" tall and had dark hair and dark eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he first served as a private with Co. H, 16th Pa Inf, April 20 - July 30, 1861. He then was drafted in York October 16, 1862, and assigned to Co. A, 166th Pa Inf, and elected sergeant. Honorably discharged July 28, 1863. Last, he enlisted in York September 3, 1864, with Co. K, 200th Pa Inf, and promoted to corporal. Although he either was on detached duty or in the hospital after November 1864, he was still promoted to sergeant May 4, 1865. Honorably discharged May 30, 1865.
After the war, he served as post commander of the York G.A.R.
